“Pastor Russ, Can You Help?”

Those four words often begin some of the most difficult — and most meaningful — ministry opportunities we encounter at LaRoche & Co Missions.

God continues to open doors for us to extend mercy in times of great need.

All of us have experienced sickness, pain, or physical hardship at some point in our lives. Now imagine facing those challenges in an impoverished country like Haiti, where access to healthcare is extremely limited and many families simply cannot afford even the most basic medical care.

For far too many Haitians, this is daily reality.

The needs can feel overwhelming. We cannot help everyone, but at LaRoche & Co Missions, we are committed to responding to the people God places in our path through relationships. After all, our mission has always been about ministering God’s grace through relationships.

Emergency Hernia Surgery

Recently, we were able to raise funds for a young man who grew up in the Children’s Home and Transition House at Real Love Ministries International. Now living independently, he found himself in desperate need of emergency hernia surgery.

Because of the generosity of faithful supporters, the surgery was fully funded, and he is now recovering well.

Praise God!

Two Current Medical Mercy Needs

In addition to that emergency surgery, we are currently assisting with two ongoing medical cases — one short-term and one long-term.

A 9-Year-Old Girl in Need of Eye Surgery

The first case involves a 9-year-old girl living on the island of La Gonâve, just off the mainland of Haiti. She has been suffering from severe eye pain and requires surgery.

We are currently raising $350 so she can receive the procedure in June when an eye surgeon travels to La Gonâve.

Supporting a Toddler with Cerebral Palsy

The second case is one we have shared previously — a 2-year-old boy with Cerebral Palsy who is unable to stand, walk, or talk.

Thanks to funds already raised, we have been able to restart his regular doctor appointments and therapy visits at Hospital Albert Schweitzer in Haiti (HAS). The hospital has graciously agreed to provide his medical care free of charge.

The primary challenge has been transportation.

Originally, the child and his grandmother traveled nearly three hours by motorcycle over rough dirt roads to reach the hospital. Through generous support, we were able to rent a modest two-room house for a year much closer to HAS, reducing travel time to less than 30 minutes and lowering transportation costs from approximately $100 per trip to around $25.

This has been a tremendous blessing for both the child and his grandmother.

In addition to transportation assistance, we are helping provide:

  • Food

  • Formula

  • Diapers

  • Medicine

  • Ongoing travel expenses

My friend JP — whose heart was deeply moved by this child’s situation — first contacted me about the need and is now faithfully serving as caretaker for both the boy and his grandmother. He provides regular updates, including photos, medical reports, and receipts, ensuring accountability for every dollar given.

We are also working toward long-term sustainability by helping JP re-establish a small business in the new community where they relocated. Our prayer is that over time, this will allow him to provide increasing financial support locally while reducing the ongoing ministry burden.

Current Financial Needs

For security reasons, we are intentionally not sharing the child’s name publicly.

Here are the immediate and ongoing needs:

  • Urgent: $550 to cover remaining expenses for May

  • Urgent: $600 to purchase three mattresses
(The family is currently sleeping on the floor in their new home, which is especially difficult for both a sick child and an elderly grandmother.)

  • $700 per month (June–December)
to provide food, formula, diapers, medicine, and transportation

How You Can Help

You can help provide care, comfort, and dignity “for the least of these” by donating through our new Medical Mercies designation.

Your support allows us to respond quickly and compassionately when these urgent needs arise.

Please continue praying for healing, provision, protection, and hope for each family we serve.

Note: The photo included with this post is AI-generated and is not an actual image of the child we are assisting. Donors supporting the Medical Mercies ministry will receive regular updates, including names and photos, so they can pray specifically for those receiving care.

Thank you for partnering with us in this ministry of mercy.

Blessings,
